This little project uses an Arduino to pull different data off the internet and display in lights. As of March 2008 there are 3 different displays.
The first are 4 $1 displays mounted together in a picture frame. Currently it displays the weather forcast for the current day and the next 3 days. Including high and low temp.
The second is 3 leds, one red, one green and one blue mounted in an old 60s/70s plastic lamp. Depending on bandwidth used in the last 24 hours, it displays a different color of the rainbow. 10 colors in total. (Because we are on a satellite internet connection, we are limited to 420mb a day)
The third is 7 leds mounted inside 7 different ping pong balls. 6 white leds mounted in 2 purple balls, 2 in green balls and 2 in blue balls. The seventh is a red led in a white ball. They can each be controlled individually, but at the moment the blues light up if I have new email, the green lights up if I have new email from my mom, and the purple lights up if I have new email from my sister. The red led will come on if any of the website I am in charge of go down.
At the moment I am out of data pins on the Arduino, but if I get fancy could add a bunch more items.
